The team plans several changes for tomorrow’s game at Alberton with J Wilkinson returning and Anderson or R Quinn back from the senior camp. Franson, bruised rib initially feared, is fit after medical review, while Ritch and Wilkinson have recovered from minor injuries. Wingmen Oshe and Whicker shone last October, Brown impressed at half forward, and Jordan, Franson, and Spender feature in key positions as injuries and promotions reshuffle the side.
The April 29 race from Glavistone covered 11 miles with 125 birds from 15 owners. Winner was G Purvis BCH WS.A. dl at 1534 yards of 111 miles 507 yards in 2 53 58. Runners included P Langley RCC WSA at 163 and H Hawke RCC WSA 32. Final standings list Snow & Newberry, Matthews, Pamment, Morley, Watcon, Prideaux and others.
Mothers' Day arranged by Port Adelaide District Train ed Nursing Society and Mothers' and Babies' Health Association, assisted by Toc H, will be held in the Town Hall next Sunday May 14 at 3 pm. It features songs by Gladys Polglase Margaret Pirie Ken Ward elocutionary items Myra Noblet violin solos Mary Gryst selections Le Doueff's Orchestra Alberta Longstaff with J W G Jonas directing. R C Smith presides and Rev Bernard M Wilson will give the address. Floral decorations by Port Floricultural Society members H M Caulfield and Netta F Smith. All citizens are invited to join in honoring mothers.
The inaugural Suburban Band Contest at Colonel Light Gardens featured Port Adelaide Municipal Band led by A M Millan against Colonel Light Gardens Municipal Band under S G Williams. A large crowd attended a street march and ceremony with prizes for solo and quartet events, adjudicated by L Taylor and A Radcliff.
More than 30 long-distance runners joined the first interclub pack run of the winter season with Adelaide Harriers Western District and Port Adelaide represented. The four mile course started on South Terrace near the Harriers shed, proceeded via King William Road Cohen Avenue Park Terrace Parkside Hospital and Victoria Park race course, then returned. Judd of Western paced the field with Raven Harriers whipping, F Mills the State miler leading at the finish as Mills Barnes Raven Judd were noted for form. The Harriers plan a shorter winter program with hill scrambles and social activities, and the pack walk was skipped due to few walkers.
Captain G. G. Thorne, recently given command of the Ormonde, arrived at the Outer Harbor on Saturday for his inaugural voyage after taking charge in London. Captain L. V. James, former Ormonde commander, now helms the Otranto.
