Explosive Fire on City of Singapore Off Port Adelaide
A benzine laden fire on the City of Singapore at No 2 quay rear ignited flames and caused a fatal explosion. Firemen from Port Adelaide and Adelaide battled the blaze with eleven hoses, saving many lives but costing three firemen and injuring eleven others. The blast damaged the wharf sheds and surrounding buildings as crowds watched from afar.
