Unlawful Possession Case Heard At Port Adelaide Court

In Port Adelaide Police Court last Friday detective evidence followed Rex v Lynch criteria. The case against Edward George McBurnie, charged with unlawful possession, was dismissed after defense argued prior statements could not be used without cautions.

Fall from Overhead Tramway In Port Adelaide Hulk

A coal ramp accident aboard the steamer Barwon at Port Adelaide on Monday afternoon caused Ney Gill a fall from the tramway while discharging coal. He struck the coal hulk, suffering deep facial lacerations and head wounds. Gill was treated at Port Adelaide Casualty Hospital.

Unlawful possession charge withdrawn in Port Narita court

An unlawful possession charge against Mier was withdrawn before Judge Sinclair. The case, cited as involving leather soles and a pair of drivers, was heard in Port Narita Wallee Court with adjournment requested by Frederick Neils Jens before Friday. The event occurred on March 14 in Largs.

Ross Smith Arrives Expected Flight Fails to Show in Port Adelaide

A large crowd gathered in Port Adelaide at 1 pm on Tuesday to witness Sir Ross Smith's anticipated flight over the city. The mayor had planned signals from the Town Wall and rockets from the steamer Parattah as the airmen were to be greeted by the vessel's siren. An aeroplane appeared briefly around 1:30 pm but the program did not proceed, and spectators dispersed by 2:30 pm. Many residents stayed behind hoping for the flight, limiting the chance to see the aircraft.

Man Struck By Horse And Trolley On Port Road

Mrs Harrison of Seaton Park was knocked from a bicycle on Port Road during a Wednesday trip to work. A horse and trolley caused the incident, leaving abrasions. She received first aid at the Port Adelaide Hospital.

Yatala Methodist Band of Hope Meeting Report

The Yatala Methodist Band of Hope held a fair fortnightly meeting on March 10 with a strong turnout. Rev Fr Bulock gave an interesting address as Miss Savage Freeman Boyce Bramwell Page Darling Chapeau and Young plus Mutser Smith performed musical items. A vote of thanks was given and the meeting closed with the National Anthem.

Workers' Educational Association Lectures Start at Port Institute

A series of preparatory lectures by the Workers' Educational Association aims to form a University style English literature course over three years. The first lecture will be next Thursday at Port Adelaide, 7 pm, on Great Writers and The Prophets of Life, covering George Eliot and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Lectures will be weekly except April 11, with topics on Shakespeare Charlotte Brontë Robert Browning and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Fees are free and led by Rev OT Whalley who heads the program.

Two-Up Game Charges Hearings At Port Adelaide Court

At Port Adelaide Police Court on Tuesday, Joseph May laborer of Glanville faced charges for playing the unlawful game of two-up at Cheltenham racecourse with about 30 men present. Witnesses included Constables Martin Heenan and Allen who saw May with a kip and coins. May denied participation. Pettersen and others faced related charges. Pettersen testified he did not join the game. Sub-Inspector Fraser noted inconsistencies in witness statements. the bench found the charges proven and fined May 30 pounds plus costs.
