Puke pleasure in stating that they have purchased the Adelaide Meat Store on Semaphore Road Exeter and will maintain the same high service for which this business has been known.
A social at Miss Muriel Bird's Pelham Street home honored her upcoming long stay in Mount Gambier. Family, colleagues, and friends attended, with toasts, a mock wedding, flower variety contest, and musical numbers by local performers and members of the Glanville Methodist choir.
In Semaphore a man named Robert Henry Hunter shot his wife Ellen Henrietta Hunter in the back yard and then was found drowned about two yards north of the Semaphore jetty. Mrs Hunter survived with a neck wound. Hunter died in the water. The couple had been living apart, with Mrs Hunter staying at her mother Matilda MacKellar’s home. Hunter had a history of drunkenness and prior suicide attempts including drowning rescues. He had recently held a watchman job on the K V Kruse and earlier served at the Prince Alfred Sailors Home.
Ex soldiers connected to the Tubercular Soldiers' Aid Society front Fort Adelaide plan to equal last year's success. The focal committee, led by secretary A R McKay, notes 314 was raised locally last year, a record outside the metropolitan area, and invites ladies to offer their services for the current appeal.
In Port Adelaide district independent candidate T T Thompson received a letter from the Waterside Workers' Federation urging withdrawal after nominations closed. He refused to withdraw, published the letter, and faces a summons to appear for possible discipline under Rule 25. A caution from the federation secretary warned against publicizing the summons or discussing it outside members. Thompson says he will attend the branch meeting and has declared intent to win a seat in the Assembly.
The Federal Line steamer Kent departing Port Adelaide for Continental ports left behind a large cargo damaged by water. Wool bales and dried fruit were affected, with some tinned meat exposed after a leaking pipe is suspected. Also notices the Amsterdam death of George Brandes, and Gladys Moncrieff’s acclaimed London theatre debut in Blue Mazurka.
Workers rally in support of the selected labor candidates and the Australian Tabor Party with authorization by J Anderson president Waite Street Glanville.
