Strathaird to sail on maiden voyage this Saturday
The Strathaird sister ship to the Strathnaver arrives for public inspection at the Outer Harbor this Saturday on its maiden voyage. It boasts 22 500 tons gross, 1 700 crew and passengers, electric cooking, two turbo alternator engines, a 320 ft promenade deck, and extensive facilities for families including nurseries and a special dining room for children.

Cyclist knocked from bike in Port Road collision
Edward Tremellan of Birdwood Avenue Allenby Gardens was riding a bush bicycle on Port Road West Croydon toward Adelaide when a motor cycle with sidecar driven by William Habel struck him. He suffered head injuries and concussion and was taken to Adelaide Hospital.

Deserter Hekenin Set to Sail for Adelaide Return
Allan Hekenin, a Finnish seaman who deserted the ship at Port Adelaide a year ago, was arrested in Sydney last week as a prohibited immigrant. Plainclothes Constable W Sutherland escorted him from New South Wales to Adelaide, and he boarded the Melbourne at Port Victoria to resume voyage. The decision to depart was made on the train returning to Adelaide.

Stowaway Charged After Boarding Lar Bay Steamer
In Port Adelaide Police Court Samuel Gadine aged 28 was fined five pounds and costs after stowing away on the steamer Lar Bay en route from Melbourne to Adelaide. Gardiner sought passage to Western Australia and attempted to work his passage. he was found mingling with passengers half an hour after departure. He faced seven days imprisonment in default.

Port Adelaide Thief Sentenced For pennies and Sugar
William Henry Johnis Hehir aged 18 of Birkenhead broke into Port Adelaide Town Hall on Sunday and stole 12 pennies and a tin of sugar used by cooking students in the basement. Hehir was sent to gaol for a week in Port Adelaide Police Court Monday.

Death of Mr. Alfred Haines at 82 in Alberton
Alfred Haines of Alberton died aged 82. Born in England he came to Australia at age two. He served in the British Navy during the civil war in Spain and retired as first class petty officer in 1877. He joined the South Australian railways the same year and retired in 1920, leaving four sons and five daughters.
