Captain P. Weir Honored for Courageous Voyages
Captain P Weir earned praise for strong seamanship towing with the Commonwealth vessels during early operations near Queensland and Port Adelaide. He commanded the Protector and was sent in 1916 to Cocos Island to salvage the German cruiser Emden but found most of the ship gone. After Captain J Inglis retired as harbor master, Weir filled the post with notable satisfaction and served until federal takeover, previously serving as examiner of masters and mates at Port Adelaide.
