Waterside Workers fight over picking up times
The Port Adelaide Waterside Workers Federation branch contested daily picking up times arguing workers could spend time at home. Courts fined the employers and ordered heavy costs. A Sydney telegram said the High Court found the action not a strike since casuals cannot strike. Adelaide branch officials hailed the telegram, but no formal confirmation was received. The branch appealed to the Full Court of BA against President Jethro Brown's election and succeeded, then pressed the Industrial Court acting president.
