In Port Adelaide on July 15 six men arrested at an unemployed meeting faced the Police Court. William McDonald pleaded not guilty to obstructing a constable, while Samuel Fox sought an adjournment. The SM imposed fines and four-day imprisonment on one defendant. others were granted adjournments to July 25. City officials discussed relief work and avoiding street gatherings, with mayoral calls for orderly aid measures and possible hall use for future meetings.
On Wednesday August 24 the Mayor and Mayoress Mr A O R Tapp will hold a reception and reunion for old citizens at Port Adelaide Town Hall. The first reception of this event was held on the same date last year.
Henry James Bel cher, a repeated stowaway from Melbourne, was handed to Fort Adelaide police aboard the Katoomba from Fremantle. At thirteen, he has been before the Port Adelaide court for destitution and ordered to Edwardston Industrial School until 18, with parents liable for maintenance.
The Assistant Missioner reviews last week's Seamen's Mission concert noting a fine string band led by Mr. G F Thomas, choir and dancing by Miss Flossie White and six girls, recitations by Miss Joyce Klopp, strong singing from Miss Mavis Joy, and Edna Edgar's singing and hornpipe. Miss Emalie Braddock performed twice. Lydia Klopp acted and recited. Mr Hansen from Lanena played organ accordion. Betty Jonas sang recitations. a duet by Marjorie Hannford and Edna Edgar pleased the audience. Most artists were Girl Guides. thanks to Miss G Thomas and Capt Balliene for organizing and presiding.
