Merle Ketch Disaster Ends With Inquest Rejection
A small ketch named Merle owned by Mrs Christina Sayard of Sandwell caught fire after an explosion near Torrent Island. Keith Sewford and his brother towed the burning vessel to Snowren Beach, the engine failed to start, and both men escaped with burns. The wreck smoldered overnight, and an inquest was deemed unnecessary by the coroner.

Bird returns to Port Adelaide owner after interstate voyage
A galalk owned by Mr A K Anderson of the Criterion Hotel Port Adelaide disappeared from the back yard two months ago when an interstate boat sailed. Port Adelaide police coordinated with Melbourne police who recovered the bird and sent it back to Adelaide by express on Thursday to be returned to its owner.

At 7 15 pm on Thursday Port Adelaide Fire Brigade fought a blaze at the palv anised iron buildings in Commercial Road Port Adelaide recently used by Messrs Walter Mor ris Ltd as joinery workshops. The fire started on a floor platform near the joinery shop and spread along the roof. The brigade quickly controlled the fire in five minutes after two lengths of hose were deployed.
