Last Friday morning a heavy lorry owned by Mr G Murdock with a load of jam broke through the decking of Big Crane Wharf. The jam was unloaded and the vehicle jacked up for movement. The lorry sustained minor damage and a Harbors Board lorry repaired the site. The incident highlights ongoing danger from loaded vehicles at the wharf.

A Port Adelaide council clash over relocating a busy pie stall near Commercial Road. Deputies argued to keep the stall for workers, while plans moved to Hart Street amid criticisms of a “dirty back street” site. A police report later found human remains on Osborne Beach identified as Captain J W Walsh, an 88 year old retired sea captain missing since September. No inquest was ordered.
The City Coroner Dr Ramsay Smith has decided no enquiry is needed into the death of 21 year old William Thomas Barrett of Swigg Street Birkenhead. Barrett died from injuries at Adel aide Hospital after being crushed Friday night while tarpaulin was being placed over a truckload of fertiliser at Cresco Fertilizers yards Birkenhead when an engine moved back.
A Morgan district picnic to Semaphore drew residents from Morgan Cadell and Eda with Mount Mary Hower and Sutherland neighbors joining. About 750 people rode trains, extra carriages and a second engine were required, and the event faced Railway Department charges of £208 11d despite high ticket sales and broad community turnout. The Mayor and Town Clerk welcomed visitors and a gymnasium facility was prepared in case of rain.
