Timely discovery of fire at Globe Timber Mills Port Adelaide

At 3 99 am on Tuesday the Port Adelaide Fire Brigade answered a fre alarm to the Globe Timber Mills near the Dock. Two appliances from Port Adelaide and one from Semaphore with the fire float under District Officer Butler attended and found the blaze in the first floor of the machinery shed. There was shaving debris but the fire was quickly extinguished with practically no damage. The prompt alarm gave the firefighters the best chance to stop the outbreak at inception.

Foot Crushed While Handling Cargo at Broadway Steamer

A volunteer laborer, JC Robson, had his right foot crushed when a sling of cargo fell on it while assisting cargo on the steamer Broadway around 2 pm on Monday. He received treatment at Port Adelaide Casualty Hospital and went home.

Alleged Larceny of Lead at Birkenhead Court

James Henry Watson and two laborers faced Port Adelaide Police Court on a charge of stealing lead valued about £1 from Wallaroo Mount Lyell Fertilisers near Birkenhead. Watchman George H Haines testified spotting two men by the works, with Watson admitting bag possession but denying knowledge of two other bags. Witnesses placed Watson near the dump and upon the premises. Watson claimed he found lead in rubbish and denied intent to steal. Magistrate noted a weak safe but said Watson could have acted better at the dump and granted him the chance to explain.

Crossed the Bar Longtime Alberton Resident Mrs George Davis Dies

Mrs George Davis longtime Alberton resident and active church worker dies at Duke Street on Monday. She and her husband met at Duke Street and celebrated a diamond wedding on June 30 1924. Daughter Miss Minella Carling Bailey survives with husband George Davis and an adopted daughter Mrs G Patterson. Her widow’s faithful public service at the Alberson Methodist Church and Sunday School teaching noted, with extended family in South Australia. Her passing leaves Mr Davis and local friends in deep sympathy.

Indecent Assault Charge At Port Adelaide Court

A youth of about 18 appeared before Mr GW Halcombe SM at Port Adelaide Police Court on Thursday charged with indecently assaulting a 16 year old girl at Port Adelaide on August 24. Inspector E Nobles secured a remand to Tuesday and an order suppressing names of the parties. Bail set at two hundred dollars with two sureties of fifty dollars each.
