District Trained Nursing Society Faces Debt and Fund Drive

Port Adelaide district branch grapples with a £200 debt over two years while meeting annual quotas to Adelaide. Overcoming the Water Main Trouble in Fort Adelaide

The article notes burst water mains caused by higher pressure, prompting renewals and new pipes. Carmel Ball Recital Supports Marist Brothers School Funds

The Carmel ball at Port Adelaide Tow Hall on Monday evening raised funds for Alberton’s Marist Brothers’ School. A large attendance and a long list of local dignitaries and volunteers helped decorate, host, and run the event with music from Leo Fisher’s orchestra and substantial supper and decoration committees.

Port Adelaide union holds August meeting on Labor plebiscite dispute

The Fortnightly general meeting of the Port Adelaide division of the Federated Storemen and Packers Union sat August 5 in Dale Street rooms with President Mr J Marcon presiding. Officials discussed the Labor plebiscite by election for the Legislative Council seat and related correspondence from the SA Labor Party and the Federal secretary Mr W Brotherton on the oil award. Delegates Jonas Guion and Marron reported on the special meeting business and the executive was tasked with the oil award matter.

Cyclist and Motor Car Collision in Birkenhead

Thomas Hixon of Woolnough Road Largs rode a bicycle on Kann Street Birkenhead when a motor car driven by Ernest Wache of Guin Street Birkenhead struck him. Hixon received head wound and shock and was taken to Port Adelaide Casualty Hospital.

Extensions of mains for dead ends in several districts

Extensions of mains for the purpose largely of doing away with dead ends are to be carried out at Largs and Semaphore. In Gloucester and Devon streets eight chains of dried main will be laid and new piping extended to five chains in Ares Terrace and eight chains in Wigley Street. In Semaphore district three chains in Jagoe Street, thirty four chains in Hughes Street and other lengths are proposed. The work is to be vigorously directed.

Mr J H Scullin, opposition leader in the Federal House, spoke at Port Adelaide Town Hall last Friday. He urged unemployment relief through work and warned against production pressure, urging use of unemployment insurance and migration controls while criticizing the Prime Minister's stance.
