A. Weinert, a Semaphore Road carrier, was fined £10 and costs for cruelty to a horse after failing to stop the animal from work during illness and improper care. The magistrate lamented the defendant's prior warnings and gave 14 days to pay.
Thomas Doyle of Lee Terrace Rosewater faced Port Adelaide Police Court last Friday charged by Mrs. Jane Samuel with insulting words on July 16. Doyle pleaded not guilty, admitted upset over impounded horses, and was fined £1 plus £2 16s costs with seven days imprisonment in default. Witness Catherine Glaniion testified Doyle insulted Samuel, calling her an interfering old hen.
Two men, George Robert Barnes and Jack Day, were discovered as stowaways aboard the steamer Zealandia after leaving Melbourne on August 6. They admitted traveling from Melbourne to Port Adelaide without paying fares and faced Port Adelaide Police Court, where they pleaded guilty and were fined £3 plus 15 shillings costs or three days’ imprisonment.

Two youths were imprisoned after violent acts at Port Adelaide Picture Theatre. Leslie Dean of Alberton faced charges by Star Theatre manager Thomas Harrison for assault and indecent language on July 12. Witnesses described blows in the vestibule and a sequence of confrontations as Dean, Sims, and others entered and left the theatre. Simultaneous claims and apologies followed, with Harrison denying entry to Sims and Dean challenging him to fight.
At the Port Adelaide Police Court last Friday F J C Whittney of West Croydon faced fines for riding on a footpath and for knocking down a girl. A separate case against Molda Holbrook of Glanville for similar offences on Mary Street also saw fines. A further incident involved Sims, Harv ey, and Dean in a street altercation with blows and indecent language, leading to sentences of imprisonment and costs. The theatre manager refused entry to a disruptive individual.
Two boys aged 1 and 16 faced charges in Port Adelsir Largs Bay reserve juvenile court. Evidence showed disorderly youth behavior and vandalism. One boy received a 14 day reform school order in default.
A motor vehicle offence cited under the bylaws led to a £1 fine plus £1 costs be awarded.
