Desperate Birkenhead man jailed for stealing to feed family

William Howett, 20, unemployed of Walker Street Birkenhead, admitted stealing garments from clotheslines to clothe his six hungry children during a cold winter. He told the Port Adelaide Court his poverty after two years of unemployment forced the act. Parcels and aid followed. a petition for his release is being prepared by Rev. T. P. Willason.

Naval Riflemen Hold Fortnightly Dances at Semaphore Hall

The KAN.R. Rifle Club social committee staged a series of dances in Soldiers' Memorial Hall Semaphore with a large attendance. Eight-piece band including the Naval Tazz Band supplied music. The program mixed new dances and old favorites, prizes awarded for two Carlo fox-trots, and Lieutenant H P Jarrett with Mrs Jarrett and RN personnel attended.

Local Birth Ends In Tragic Death In Myrtle Home Wingfeld

Mrs V A Burrows of Street Myrtle Home Wingfeld brought her month old son Ralph Adelaide to Casualty Hospital Monday where Dr E found the child dead in its mother s arms as she carried it to the hospital. The mother had been ill in the morning and was advised to seek care. A report on the death was prepared by Constable W Sutherland.

Port Adelaide Rifle Club held its first trophy contest at the range on Saturday. Windle led scoring with 64, Semaphore's son scored 68, and strong showings came from multiple clubs including Port Adelaide, with notable marks by Matheson, Hellawell, Walker, Stewart, Germein, and others. The Semaphore handicap limit influenced competition as shooters posted scores across 700 yards.
