A luncheon at the Snowshoe Mine gathered editors from London Glasgow Inverness and Leeds. The British editors discussed supplied information and shared insights into mining coverage and regional press perspectives.
A party of British journalists and Liberal politicians arrived in Phoenix after touring the Granby and Mother Lode smelters. They visited the Knob Hill Snowshoe mines, heard speeches by Mr Waterlow, and were hosted by local officials led by Mayor Rumberger. The group praised Canada’s mineral wealth, urged broader British capital investment, and noted issues with customs and the 20 percent mineral tax affecting low grade mines.
William Fowler sold his five eighths interest in the Providence mine at Providence camp to Wins Law and others of Greenwood for about 50,000. Earlier a three eighths stake sold for 6,000, with another 6,500 paid recently. future payments expected from ore shipments. The mine, worked on lease and bond from Walters and Rutter, yielded a 43.5 ton ore shipment to Trail smelter with $143 per ton net. W S Macy of Phoenix now participates.
H Mortimer Lamb of Victoria praised the Knob Hill and Old Ironsides mines as the greatest in the world after touring the Granby Co properties in Boundary Camp. Lamb, editor of the British Columbia Mining Record, noted his cautious, reliable record and plans to publish weekly starting next January.
Crow's Nest Pass coal company and Western Federation of Miners officials say no trouble is brewing. President Dougherty, National miners leader, cites agreement to revert to time and wages in October if miners choose. Fernie union secretary says reports of importing Pennsylvanians are false amid renewed mine operations. Other notes: C P R agent O W Dey returns from coast, Snowshoe mine plans debated, and Mother Lode and Granby engineers hire new masters.
