Mother Lode Smelter Eyes Ore Shipments From Brooklyn

Report outlines ore shipments from the Brooklyn and Steinwinder mines to the Mother Lode smelter at Greenwood. 5,000 to 10,000 tons of ore expected, with 4,000 feet of iron track planned to reach the dumps. Dominion Copper and CP Ry officials reviewed spurs and confirmed delivery timing.

Deputy Commissioner of Lands and Works at Victoria states no lands in Southeast Kootenay are open for location. Ft Steele Prospector notes mass staking despite refusals, with about 400 license applications and possible dummy claimants. Objections slow crown mineral tax hike in Phoenix

Citizens erupted over a proposed increase in the crown grant mineral claim tax from 25 to 50 cents per acre. A petition with 132 signatures was sent to the government, sparking Telegrams and a published state scene that produced a compromise leaving the 35 cent per acre rate in place. Meanwhile Snowshoe mine gains power as step down transformers arrive and are installed by Cascade Power. The Snowshoe hoist can now operate at will from the Phoenix substation. Transform er work, borrowed from the Granby smelter, is complete and ready for use.

Nickel Plate stamp mill to run by next July at Hedley City

Frank Bailey reports rising activity in Similkameen mining with Yale Gold Mining Co planning a 300 stamp mill at Hedley City. Foundations laid, timber framing underway, machinery on site from over 30 miles away. A gravity tramway will link Nickel Plate to Princeton wagon road, easing transport and boosting local economy amid snow and transportation delays.

Boundary Mining Notes Show Increased Forces Across Mines

Boundary Wing operations report higher work force this week with three men at the Ore Dendo in Summit camp under H. Anderson. The Elkhorn adjoining Providence shipped a car of ore to the Trail smelter last week. Snowshoe deepening work uses three shifts on the main compartment incline shaft. Granby No 4 tunnel planned at 1000 feet will exit near Pioneer office. H. C. mine employs 30 to 35 men though no ore is shipped, ore stored on dump. Brown of Anaconda plans King of the Hills development near Snowshoe. Mucking scarce. forces increased but not fully utilized. Providence bond payoff hoped with extra ore cars. Bailey reports all 40 stamps dropping. 50+ men at mine, cyanide works, stamp mill. Granby motor installations near completion. 230 hp soon. Granby furnace third blast, coke shipments arriving. Granby ore shipments now 1200 tons daily. Legislature estimates $15,000 for Rosshand riding district, funds for roads, trails, bridges, with about $4,000 to Rossland area. grant $500 more than 1902. Easter Monday Miners Ball by Hockey and Carling clubs a success. Wesent attendees enjoyed orchestra and midnight supper. Nelson city council cuts $2,490 in salience without impacting services.

Returned from Old England on Snowshoe mining business

Anthony J. McMillan of Snowshoe Copper Mines Ltd arrived in Rossland from London and will tour Phoenix then England again in May or June. He praised recent work at the Snowshoe mine under J. W. Astley and noted resumed shipments with the new electric hoist. plans for a smelter remain unannounced, while tax changes on crown grants drew his opposition.
