Early Enterprise at Bathurst Ma Ma Hanaanan On Mills

Ma M Hanaanan from Black Springs near Oberon notes Bathurst flour mill was not steam driven west of the Blue Mountains. He recalls the first steam powered mill by John Ford in 1849 with 6 horsepower, later replaced by stone grinding. The engine and boiler remain archived, as does a later steam mill at George Street. Purchases of wheat at one shilling per bushel were common in the 1850s.
