Mingelo Fire Inquiry Opens Over Public School Loss
In Mingelo on Tuesday J.P. H N Gibson held an inquiry at Norris Mingelo Hotel into last week’s blaze that destroyed the Mingelo Public School. Witnesses described discovering flames mid‑evening and estimating losses while denying knowledge of the fire’s origin.
Origin of the Mingelo School Fire
Police constable Oscar Stanley McDonald testified on September 25 that the Mingelo School burned after he and Constable Hill arrived at 10:15 p.m. He found a locked door and padlock, while Robert Egan recalled seeing the fire after hearing an alarm and noting no earlier flames. An open verdict was returned as to the fire’s origin.
