Jemalong Shire plans closer settlement and council gains

The Jemalong Shire Council, after talks with the Lands Department, moves toward surveying about 2000 acres into small holdings to aid settlers. At a recent naval fortnightly meeting, T Lozell and F Booth were appointed clerk and engineer at 150 and 225 pounds respectively. The council seeks jobs for valuers and urges closer settlement by resaving large estates, a plan likely to meet opposition. Local election talk centers on Ashburnham with Warton, Lynch, O Shaughnessy and Luhrs named candidates. Luhrs is favored for Labor selection and O Shaughnessy is strong at Peak Hill. Many buyers are Victorians and South Australians, and bids for a North Forbes gold claim were turned down. Rose takes over as line repairer in the post and telegraph district including Pook Hill.
