Peak Hill to Narromine Peak Hill rail link debated
A railway inquiry discusses extending from Peak Hill toward Narromine and Parkes. Officials emphasize westward land yields and Crown lands, arguing the line serves wheat districts, improves freight costs, and benefits western farmers despite population shifts in Tomingley and Parkes.
Railway line case maps and land use details emerge
In a committee discussion led by Mr A. J. Hare the Narromine to Ponk Hill proposal is explored with land classifications. Alienated blue areas total 120,000 acres, leased lands 169,011 acres, Crown land 21,500, reserves 60,700 acres. Settlement leases cover 320 acres with 28 year terms. improvement leases 43,404 acres. special leases 1,506 acres. Many leases may revert to the Crown. Mungary lease about 14,000 acres may be forfeited. Areas not yet freehold are treated as alienated land. Reserves serve travelling stock use. Tomingley and Peak Hill blocks hold high value land. The railway's construction could unlock large reserve areas for settlement and improve farming profitability. The debate notes wheat growth rise and transport costs, with next installment promised.
