Cape of Goad Hope Dispatches Indicate Port Natal Clash
Private letters from Algoa Bay describe a rumored engagement between Government troops and emigrant farmers at Port Natal. They claim a 100 man detachment failed against 5,000 Dutch farmers who fired on soldiers, killing many including the governor's interpreter and the officer in command. The letters critique home authorities for harsh treatment driving emigration and warn of food price spikes as figures fear Dutch support inland.
