A Glasgow originated testimonial from May 1836 honors George Thompson for his abolition work. Donations funded a potential annuity to support his family. London and other cities contributed. A December 7 1838 Glasgow meeting appointed a subcommittee to publicize the fund and collect further subscriptions across Britain.
