The Pas Lions Club will stop operating the Winton Swimming Pool after four summers as a club project. Rising maintenance costs and worn equipment led to closures this season despite efforts to repair. Substantial wage subsidies were needed as admission revenue failed to cover costs amid vandalism issues.
The Pas Lions Club hosts its annual Blind Canvass from October 3 to 8 with door to door visits and contacting business premises. The drive supports the CNIB with official receipts for donations and notes CNIB services reached three local blind cases since the last canvass.
The riding event at The Pas gathers riders for a popular feature organized by M J Cam. Cowboys and cowgirls perform in the arena showcasing skill and spirit in a community showcase.
A break‑in at The Swan River The Pas Transfer office resulted in about 150 dollars in cash missing plus several checks. Entry occurred between midnight and 5 a.m. last Friday via the front door. Police note a hidden outdoor key and a smashed cash door lock to access two cash boxes. A southbound driver found the office door unlocked.

The Lions of District 5M3 host a Get Together this Saturday October 1 with about sixty five delegates from clubs in Kenora Ontario Winnipeg Riverside St James East Kildonan Dauphin Plumas and Flin Flon plus three ladies from south of the border wives of past district governors. The program starts Friday evening informal reception brunch Saturday at Gateway Hotel Banquet Room bus tour to local sights coffee at Ann Kings cottage Camper's Cove Clearwater Lake and a 6 pm registration at Guy Hall followed by cocktails turkey banquet and entertainment by DM Cho and local Lions. Coffee and dainties will be served after the show.
George Litton, acting general manager of Churchill Forest Industry Limited, writes to Mayor Harry Trager detailing initial steps for a forest complex project in The Pas. He thanks Dr. Kasser of Technopulp and Mr. Ziegler of Arthur D. Little for their hospitality and outlines progress to date.
Two people died in separate road accidents near The Pas. Oliver Dick 37 of Root Lake was struck by a southbound half ton truck driven by Edwin Johannson Cranberry Portage at 10 46 p m on Highway 0 a coroner ordered an inquest. Leopold Rodrigue 48 of The Pas died when his car overturned into a water filled ditch eleven miles south of Cranberry Portage on Friday.
Ronald Osley received a 20 year service honor with a staff presentation by him. Mark Rivalin presented on behalf of the Theatre and Paul Rivalin spoke for the Rivalin family.
A Saskatchewan river ferry project will connect Cumberland House to the mainland once the vessel from Keystone Fisheries reaches its destination at The Pas. The 26 foot wide craft, 66 feet long, ferries across the river using river currents and a cable guidance system with tide boards.
