Manitoba cooks complete first large scale emergency feeding course
Twenty six Manitoba cooks and food service staff completed a four day Emergency Feeding course at the Provincial Civil Defence College Brandon. They demonstrated feeding 200 people in seven minutes using Soyer stoves and portable kitchen units, with 45 minutes from unpacking to first coffee. Participants hailed from Northern Manitoba including Lynn Lake Dauphin The Pas Flin Flon and Grandview and included several Civil Defence instructors.

Town grants funds to Loca Retarded Children's Assoc
The Town of The Pas awards $700 to the Retarded Children's Association for Sept–Dec this year and contemplates a further $1000 for January to June 1963 pending Council approval. The group runs daytime classes with seven pupils, meeting at Christ Church Parish Hall and then the Apostolic Church basement from October 1. The $1700 municipal grant enables a formal application for a Provincial Health Grant. provincial funds based on $40 per child per school day are not payable until March, requiring tight budgeting in the interim.
