Residents in the Kelsey School Division voted for a by law to fund a new 960000 dollar high school. The Pas turnout was 403 with 363 in support and 130 against. Carrot Valley had 17 voters all for the by law. Wanless 11 voters favored eight to three against. Overall 388 in favor and 133 against.
Canadian officials said Manitoba communities switch to standard time in September but CN trains in the Keystone Province will keep daylight saving time until October 30. Saskatchewan and Alberta will operate on Standard Time.
Rosalind Ridings a grade 12 graduate from Margaret Barbour Collegiate received The Town of The Pas scholarship at last week’s council meeting based on a school report. She plans to attend United College University of Manitoba this month to study Arts and also earned a $50 award from The United College Women's Auxiliary.
A large crowd gathered at Elk's Hall in The Pas to honor Ticky King for his lifelong contribution to local and regional sports. Mayor Harry Trager led tributes while Irv Snider, Tom French, and others presented keepsakes. a gold watch, engraved bat, plaque, and mounted baseball symbolized his impact.
A local motorist, cited after explaining he was obeying road signs, faced a speeding ticket issued after a close call near the edge of a precipitous road in the High Rockies. Other cars in the group had similar encounters with law enforcement.
RCMP report three youths ages twelve and thirteen arrested after fourteen break-ins over two weeks in The Pas. About $200 in coins taken from eleven homes two businesses and the Provincial Building. A diamond ring and piggy bank loot noted. All to appear in juvenile court.
Management says plans for a multi million dollar industrial forest complex at The Pas are advancing. Engineers from Ripley Klohn and Leonoff Ltd have begun soil tests on a 3000 acre site near the Saskatchewan River. Dr A Kasser and George Litton of Techno Pulp, with Jim Ziegler of Arthur D Little, are overseeing the project as Churchill seeks key personnel.
Councillor Audrey Batchelor objects to a proposed resolution by Vern Bernstrom to ask the provincial government about Monaco A.G. She notes similar political moves over the Vocational School. The council nevertheless passed a resolution directed to Premier Roblin, Jack Carroll, and the Minister of Industry and Commerce seeking concrete information on the local Monaco A.G. situation.
Town council advances a two year paving program under grants in aid. Planned streets include Bell Avenue Settee Avenue Cathedral Avenue and Lathlin Avenue. Estimated total cost 158000 with caution that costs rise. Work to begin in 1967.
The induction of Rev. W. E. McDonald as minister of Westminster United Church in The Pas will be held on Monday September 19 at 9 30 pm with Rev. D. Bruce MacDonald participating. The service also marks the first meeting of the Northland Presbytery of the United Church with about 40 members expected and open attendance for visitors.
Drummond, a Thompson resident, was found unconscious in a ditch after his 1965 Impala left the road two miles north of Wantess last Thursday. A passing motorist, Doug Taylor, aided him and transported him to The Pas hospital. Police investigate the crash cause.
