Dieppe Beach Evacuation Horror Recalls Brutal Scene
Wartime recollection describes a five man crew sheltering behind a sea wall as German fire rips into the beach at Dieppe. Mortars, machine guns, and a Focke-Wulf fighter plane unleash devastation while boats and swimmers face deadly crossfire. The narrator recalls smoke, fear, and moments of paralysis before a relief aircraft departs, narrowly sparing him and his companions from death.
