The Pas Lions Club hosts a two night auto show in The Pas Arena featuring Carroll Motors Beaumont Pro teams Roger's Texaco Service and four major dealers. Doors open 7 30 P M with 25 admission and hourly prize draws. Proceeds go to community service.

Registrations Sought Now For Basic Training

The Manitoba Department of Education invites applicants to enroll in a full time day basic training program for skilled development. The upgrading course targets individuals aiming to improve their standing in Applied English. Continued on page 10.

Friendship Centre Drive Underway At The Pas Campaign

The Pas Friendship Center launched a drive to raise a 1000 net by next April to balance its annual budget. Mayor Harry Prager bought a pay what you pull ticket from Muriel Lathlin and Linda Ross as part of the sales effort. First prize on October 29 is a 12 gauge shotgun or a portable tape player with tickets selling from free to 50 cents. Proceeds fund center operations to reduce government dependence.

Local Overture Concerts Possible Cancellation This Winter

The Over ture Concert Association reports weak membership response and funds, risking no concerts in The Pas this winter. The Hiraoka xylophone show was canceled, replaced by Joe and Penny Aronson in March. First November concert features Sylvia Grant and Alexander Gray in a mixed operatic and vocal program.

Court Clears Hotelkeeper in Gillam Rifle Threat Case

The Manitoba Court of Appeal clears Gillam hotelkeeper Abraham Greenberg 53 after a January 16 ruling placing him on a two year suspended sentence for possessing a sawed off rifle. Magistrate Neil Macphee presided.

Blind Canvass October T1-16 in The Pas district

The Lion's Club sponsors a door to door canvass October 6 to 16 for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Volunteers Rossair Dion and Jack King conduct the drive to raise funds for services aiding those with low vision and blindness to gain new horizons.

Buffalo Migration Studied for Moose Lake Area Relocation

Biologists study moving 40 to 100 buffalo from Alberta and Manitoba to a high ridge between Moose Lake and Cormorant, 30 miles northwest of The Pas. A herd of 33 females and 7 bulls would originate from Wainwright National Wildlife Park with food deemed sufficient if left undisturbed. Officials consider hunter protection not yet decided.

Farmers Hear Hutton on Potato Marketing

A special meeting on potato marketing in The Guy Hall Clubroom drew over 50 attendees. Hon. Geo Hutton and Mr. Ken Todd spoke as John Bodnar presented a brief from Carrot River Valley Farmers Association opposing the compulsory marketing commission citing lack of farmer consultation.

Reserve Has New Chief

The Pas Indian Reserve and Band elected John Young as Chief last Thursday, defeating Carnelius Bignell by thirteen votes after a council race with nineteen candidates. Lawrence Whitehead led council candidates with eight seats filled by Jim Young Gordon McGillivary Joe Ross Malcolm McGillivary Wing Mathew Batty Joe Jebb and Philip Bignell.

Man Hospitalized After Tractor Power Takeoff Injury

Harry Landels, 80, is listed in satisfactory condition at St. Anthony's Hospital after emergency surgery last Friday to amputate his leg below the knee. Reports say his clothing was caught in a tractor power take-off during bailing.

Top Crown Life Agent Jack Johnson Wins Western Shield

Jack Johnson of The Pas was named top insurance agent for Crown Life in Western Canada for the 1965 and 1964 club years ending June 20. Sup ervisors presented the Western Vice-President Shield at a Crown Life meeting at Jasper Lodge with Johnson, his wife Blanche and two children in attendance. Johnson has a long record of top sales honors dating back to 1953 with multiple repeat wins in Manitoba and Western Canada.
