Weapon Carrying Charge Dismissed for Dwayne Johnston
In The Pas court last week a concealed weapon charge against Dwayne Archie Johnston was dismissed. Donald Despins testified Johnston slept in a beverage room when Despins claimed to see a gun tucked beneath Johnston’s belt beneath his coat. Constable Avrie said Johnston’s police statement, not given under duress, described being approached by Despins who shouted about the gun on Johnston’s lap. Continued on page 14.

Leon Connolly Retires From CN Railways
Leon Connolly ended a 17 year career with Canadian National Railways after starting in 1957 in the Building and Bridges Department, Dauphin Division. He served the Hudson Bay area and North in recent years and was honored with a Lazee-Boy chair and a commemorative CN plaque depicting a 6000 series locomotive.

Salary Talks End With Tentative Town Union Contract
The Town of The Pas and Canadian Public Employees Union Local 475 finalized negotiations last Friday. Town Manager Walt Lengerke said sessions began Tuesday at 10 30 am, broke at 4 30, reconvened Friday at 8 30 and by 10 30 reached a tentative agreement. Both sides called the settlement fair and smooth with no terms disclosed. Union Secretary Merve Krause likewise declined to reveal contract details.

Four men convicted for violent robbery on Thompson highway
Four men were sentenced after a violent robbery that injured an American doctor and his son on August 19 on the Thompson highway. Ovide Dumas and Elie Colombe received three years plus. Nasacapow and Hyrich got two years less one day for their roles as followers.
