The Manitoba department and fur traders promote conservation education with standardized fur stretchers and free patterns. A Trappers Festival wild raw fur contest awards 450 dollars in prizes plus a 75 dollar grand prize and a Manitoba Championship.
The Kinsmen Club of Kin Kourt in The Pas asks Town Council to exempt Kin Kourt from taxes, citing rising deficits and planned renovations costing about 650 dollars with club labor. The club pledged 1,000 dollars to the Recreation Commission for land and plans to join the Sports Complex, while rentals increase from February 1968. Council will review the request. probation matters and juvenile court proceedings are ongoing with four youths facing break-in charges.
Two northern Manitoba residents, Tommy Masson of Gillam and Rory Spence of Bird, were honored by Canadian National Railways for reporting a rail washout four miles north of Gillam. CN Hudson Bay Area Superintendent L W Winters presented engraved watches and appreciation letters from CN chairman N J MacMillan at a ceremony after the May 8 discovery. The men, both trappers, alerted officials leading to a halt in traffic.
