Laliberty Found Guilty Of Non Capital Murder

Gilbert Alexander Laliberty of Cumberland House was found guilty of non capital murder in The Pas Court of Queen's Bench. The verdict followed evidence from autopsies showing extensive injuries to Ronald Ross of Duck Bay, whose death by shock and hemorrhage occurred after severe blunt force trauma. The case, heard before Justice Hall, included expert testimony on alcohol levels and the nature of the injuries, with the jury of eleven men and one woman delivering the verdict.

Train Derailed Near Lynn Lake Causes Minor Disruption

Mill Tax Fight as Town Union Seeks 15% Wage Boost

The town union presses for a 15 percent raise for hourly and monthly staff, totaling about 108 thousand dollars yearly, plus fringe benefits added to wages. Negotiations were referred to Councillor Vern Bernstrom and the finance committee as the current contract expires year end. The one year contract would renew annually unless either side gives 60 days notice. Supervisory staff currently earn an additional 2100 dollars monthly, and welfare plan changes are proposed.

The Town of The Pas will spend up to 200 dollars next August to cover a civic reception for personnel engaged with the Centennial Caravan a mobile affair by the Canadian Centennial Commission showing Canadian history The caravan visits The Pas from August 2 to 4 and the 1967 Council committed the expenditure at last Wednesday night meeting The caravan is not the only item described in the report.

Welfare Payments Questioned at Town Council Meeting

At a recent council session the welfare list was read aloud revealing total charges of 255.00. A major charge of 115.00 drew little comment while three 25.00 items sparked debate. One case involved a wife and children linked to a husband away at Lynn Lake. Welfare officer Steve Hrebarchuk spoke on the matter.
