The Pas Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion sponsors the annual Remembrance Day Service at the Lido Theatre Sunday at 11 a.m. Citizens are invited to attend. The event honors veterans and fallen servicemen and women.
Education Minister Ben Hanuschak announced a province wide school holiday on November 12 since Remembrance Day falls on a Sunday this year. All primary and secondary schools will close that day following the Public Schools Act. Traditionally, schools hold Remembrance Day exercises the afternoon before the holiday on November 9.
The Protective Services Committee met on October 31 and urged Council to consider first reading a new fireworks by law for The Pas. The panel also instructed Town Manager Walt Lengerke to contact Valleyview Trailer Park owner with guidance on obtaining fire protection services from the town.

Four The Pas men Kim Rushton William Donald Fisher Robert Baker and Gary Heinie were acquitted in court last week of a charge of dangerous use of a firearm. The incident reportedly occurred at 6 30 a m on April 7 1973 at Block 5 Suite 23 916 Tremanden Avenue. Police testimony described at least five shots heard and empty shell casings found near the scene.
Twenty nine residents attended the annual general meeting of the Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival on October 30 to map the 27th festival. George Takashima was named chairman for the 1974 event but could not attend. Wilf Cudmore, 1973 chairman, called the meeting to order as the treasurer reported.
Manitoba Forestry Resources Ltd will appoint L J Halgrimson Q C as chairman when the Crown transfer occurs at The Pas Forestry Complex. The delay from court proceedings leaves the Complex under Receiver L J Halgrimson and an advisory board since January 1971, with a formal board and transfer still in progress. Other expected board members include James T. Cawley, Charles C. Hunt, Sydney Parsons, Leonard Remis, W D Stothert, Morris Taillieu, J D Hanson, and A H Mackling.
The Pasman was found not guilty of dangerous driving after police testified Allan Paquin made a U turn on Keewatin Avenue on September 22. The car allegedly accelerated causing rocks to spray and a fishtailing motion while seven children aged 4 to 7 were nearby. Corporal Walter Lee said he delayed summons until the next shift.

Mr. Vince Hasker of the LC program spoke optimistically about a planned Detoxification Centre in The Pas. A 72 page proposal has been submitted to Cabinet committee, with an expected announcement within a month. The project totals $140,000 and has moved through Manitoba Health Services Commission.
The Pas residents Rebecca Nellie Diering and Clarence Michael George Constant faced conditional discharges after guilty pleas. Diering admitted cashing a welfare cheque under false pretenses and attempted a second cheque of 194.38 after claiming loss of the first. Judge Wm. R. Martin granted six months conditional discharge. Constant pleaded guilty to stealing a car from the Department of Northern Affairs during a party on October 19, receiving a one year conditional discharge.
On Wednesday October 31 1973 the BPO Elks of The Pas held a Halloween Party for children at the Elks Hall. The program began at 515 with Brother Cliff Nichols screening a film for the kids. After the film judges tallied masquerade results across age groups with thanks to Mrs Angie Grzybowski and Mrs Theresa Framingham for serving as judges.
An eight year old discovered a razor blade jammed inside an apple during Halloween in The Pas. The child had collected several apples while canvassing Cathedral Avenue with friends. Staff Sgt. G. Davis noted tracing the device was impossible due to the wide area. Police also reported numerous egg-throwing complaints that night.
Dennis Morrissette appeared before Judge Wm. R. Martin in The Pas on a narcotics trafficking charge and was remanded to November 12. Police report a half ton truck and camper were seized under the drug act, with a fire damaging the camper portion early Oct 29. Morrissette also pleaded guilty to a municipal meter by law infraction, with fines of 2 dollars plus 4 dollars in costs.
The Atikameg Association of Clearwater Lake cottage owners outlined five aims in a letter to the Department of Tourism Recreation and Cultural Affairs. President Jack Berg said the note introduces the group and its executive members, focusing on ecology preservation, lake purity, and health promotion.
