Manitoba Forestry Resources Faces Paper Demand Slump
Manitoba Forestry Resources Ltd risked layoffs as orders dwindled and markets for pulp and paper weakened. President Leif J. Hallgrimson said the situation is not unique to the company and management is pursuing sales while potential cutbacks remain possible. The Pas mill faces high shipping costs to southern markets and must accept thinner margins to stay competitive. An IWA contract settlement added a job evaluation system and a dental plan with wage increases and a 12 percent general raise starting March 20 1975.
