Ronald Godfrey found his three year old daughter Nicola drowned in an open section of a lagoon near Valley View Trailer Court on Friday March 5. Police report the girl had been playing with friends aged 2 to 5 and was taken to St Anthony's Hospital where she was pronounced dead. An inquest is anticipated.
At a recent meeting the council urged opposing a 5 percent provincial tax on alcoholic beverages and supported a tax collection agreement with the province. Mayor McBride said funds would back the town blacktopping program and noted collection challenges due to multiple outlets. The Pas leaders the field in examining the legis lation last summer.
At its March 2 meeting the Town Council refused to approve a single unit health delivery system that would merge St. Anthony's St. Paul's Rosaiie House and the Department of Health and Social Development. The decision halts the program under Bill 48 and sets up further discussion in The Herald next week.
Figura challenged a February 10 HERALD brief stating a $980 payment to E Premachuk for sodding the Town boulevard fronting Block four Campbell Drive. He cited higher actual costs and questioned contractor involvement, while Mayor McBride defended Wood Acres pricing and editorial oversight.
The Town detachment reports four people charged after raids on February 21 at 33 Tremanden Avenue yielding four one ounce jars of liquid hashish valued at 4480 and February 24 at 123 Trager Drive with 27 one ounce lids of marijuana valued at 675. Eugene Fortin Lorraine Fortin charged with possession for trafficking and David Hooper charged with trafficking marijuana and illegal possession. Fortins to plead March 14 Hooper to stand trial May 9 1977.
Two housewives Serena Anderson and Vicki McDuff run Garden Of Knowledge at Patrick Avenue and Second Street. They offer a plant shop and book exchange with seeds and slips grown by the pair and plants sourced from a Winnipeg greenhouse.
