Premier Turns Sod For War School In The Pas

Premier Duff Roblin visits The Pas to turn the sod for a two and a half million Vocational Training School funded by the Manitoba Government. The ceremony at 1:30 pm features Hon. Jack Carroll and local officials. The Pas seeks amendments to the Manitoba Hydro Act to secure equalized diesel power rates with other northern centers.

Town Reserve Votes to Invest in Manitoba Savings Bonds

The Town of The Pasts plans to invest 15000 in Manitoba Savings Bonds following a Wednesday night council meeting led by secretary-treasurer Tony Moule. Motle reported 8000 in machinery reserve 2000 in fire equipment reserve and 5900 in the Centennial account. Welfare payments for May totaled 708 from the Town and 380 from the Province.

Trappers Festival approves snow parade and stage show

Festival directors approved a snow and ice parade and a stage show budget of 4 205 00 with 460 more than 1965 for dog races. Prize money totals 250 for senior and junior events. A badge system and ice palace planning were discussed for practical implementation.

By law would allow shooting on sight of stray dogs

The Pas Town Council gave first reading to an amendment allowing the dog catcher to destroy any stray dog on sight. The motion defines stray as a dog without a town license and calls for a 2410 shotgun to be carried by the catcher. Concerns about licensing and citizen safety triggered debate and a request for further review by the town solicitor.

Overture Fall Campaign Sets Fall Concert Season

Mrs. Harry Trager elected president of The Pas Overture Concert Association as the group announces a September 13 to 30 campaign for the 1965 66 season. Three concerts are planned featuring Duo 66 with Sylvia Grant and Alexander Gray, Yoichi Hiraoka on xylophone, and the Mitchell Ruff Jazz Trio. Experienced officers and chairpersons lead the drive.

Summer Recreation Program details outlined by town council

The Herald reports on the Past Summer Recreation Program with Wayne Winser of Winnipeg leading as organizer. The program covers basketball gymnastics tennis volleyball and day camps for all ages. It begins July 5 with registration underway for all classifications.

New Grade Nine Social Studies Course Introduced

Manitoba schools will start a grade 9 social studies program in September with history and geography taught separately. The British history focus uses a theme approach centering on parliamentary development, while geography covers South America, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. A familiar grade 10 social studies program will be tested by 1000 pupils.

Poled Bear Stages Daring 4 Hydro Pole Sit Event

A five month old bear cub climbed a 4 Hydro pole on Sixteenth Street in The Pas last Saturday afternoon around four. Officials speculate the mother may have been shot, and the cub wandered solo into town. He was rescued after about 45 minutes and taken toward the dump, where he was last seen heading back toward the wilderness.
