SSEA Programme aims to place students in summer work nationwide
The SSEA Programme seeks to employ students in the summer to ease employer needs and introduce youth to the labor force. Last year Canada Manpower Centres placed about 200 000 students while youth unemployment remains high, with 14 to 19 year olds at 12 percent and student unemployment triple the Manitoba rate. The counsellor coordinates job orders, referrals, and placements, contacting employers by phone or visits, and may transfer students from outside the area via mobility. Benefits include experience, work ethic, business understanding, confidence, community benefit, and potential permanent staff, with calls to students and employers to collaborate under the Hire a Student Have a Young Summer initiative.
