Special Areas Set Up For Queen's Visit

Centennial Park will host designated zones for seniors children mothers with children and teenagers during the Royal visit to The Pas on July 11. Volunteers are sought for crowd control while RCMP recruits patrol the motorcade route with Girl Guides Scouts Air Cadets and service clubs. A press area for 100 will be established at the park and press buses will precede the motorcade.

Senior Citizens Gather For St Pauls Motorcade Event

St Pauls hosts a senior assembly with 70 high school students from MBCI to entertain before a motorcade on Second Street. Transportation is arranged by Kinsmen and Lions for seniors aged 65 plus, with a Centennial Park viewing area for those not riding.

Costs Levied Against Town Adjourned to September 16th

The Town of The Pas and Mr. Tom Stewart face an appeal and cross appeal in County Court over a trailer by-law. Judge Lorne Ferg adjourned hearing to September 16 and assessed 75 dollars in costs against The Town after witness issues and prior Magistrate dismissal.

Amendment follows course for Pas meat packing plant

The Pas town planning amendment to allow the existing south end meat packing plant to operate will follow standard procedures. Drafted by provincial town planners in Winnipeg, it will be forwarded to The Pas for submission to the Town Planning Commission for recommendations, then to Council for approval or rejection.

Dental Clinic Set for The Pas on Occidental Cafe Site

Dr. S A Mak announces a modern five operatory dental clinic to replace the Occidental Cafe building. Construction starts July 1 with completion planned for late September or early October. Mr Tom Mak, cafe owner, plans a second building for a high class dining room and banquet hall featuring Canadian and Chinese dishes.

The MBCI awards day on June 10 1970 honored top athletes with the outstanding girl and boy awards. Cheryl Devenny and Gary Sheane received major honors as zone champions and individual crests were given to many Spartans for intramural and inter-school achievements. Guest speaker was Mr Don Stone and awards were presented by multiple staff members.

CNR Cuts Freight Rates Across Northern Manitoba Routes

Canadian National Railways reduced freight rates last week on a wide range of goods from Winnipeg to The Pas Flin Flon Lynn Lake and Thompson. The cuts run 13 to 35 percent for shipments from 10000 to 100000 pounds. Also applying to CNs northern box car and container services the changes cover nonperishable foods automotive parts dry goods hardware and other CN freight classes say the cuts reflect rising northern shipments and new efficiencies in freight operations.
