Tree Planting Begins on Geo Halliday Farm in Pasquia Area
The Manitoba Department of Agriculture and Conservation soil specialist Mr George Bonnefoy and summer student Allan Sturrock direct tree planting on the Geo Halliday farm to conserve soil and clear drainage ditches. Trees free of charge are planted at 18 inch spacing by a machine that lays one mile per hour, mainly Caragana Ash and Elm with Siberian Elms andWillows. Farmers may obtain trees next year by contacting Lands Branch Eric Batchelor or Ag Rep Doug Gourlay. The program, begun in 1954, aims to reduce soil drift and snow movement, raise yields by warming air and soil, cut evaporation and improve farm scenery.
