Pit Barbecue Feature At Rodeo At Pas Exhibition

The Pas and District Exhibition Association presents an old time pit barbecue at 6:00 PM Monday after a two day rodeo. Sunday features bronc riding and steer riding with pole bending and parades, culminating in Rawhide and Pony races. Evening events include Western Express Calf Scramble and humorous contests, with saddle races and wagon events completing the program. Parade routes run through Keewatin Community College to Exhibition Grounds, ending with races for various age groups.

Batchelor Votes Against DREE Trailer Move

Councillor Audrey Batchelar votes against a measure to terminate DREE lease with Harry Trager Ltd and enforce relocation of all trailers to the town trailer court in The Pas. The council previously voted to end temporary permits by June to clear space at the new trailer court, amid objections from some owners and Mayor's personal trailer on his property.

Merchants Protest Dusty Streets In The Pas

Town councillors and local merchants in The Pas vented frustration over severe dust and blocked streets from storm sewer and water main work on Fischer and Gordon Avenues. A Provincial Highways letter to the contractor Patrick Pipelines criticized poor signing and backfill surface maintenance, urging minimal public inconvenience and proper inspections.

Jack Kennedy told the Town Council the indoor swimming pool fund would receive 7500 dollars after earlier gifts of 2500 dollars each. He said the Winton family of Minneapolis had pledged 5000 dollars and that a spring conversation in Minneapolis prompted the increase upon his return to The Pas.

Long Weekend Schedule For Herald Advertising And News

Lance Leader was convicted in a special drug case session of possess ion of Cannabis under the Narcotic Control Act after police searched a trailer on Bignell Avenue. Testimony described a pipe and ash tray with marijuana leaves found in a bedroom. Leader faced a $200 to $500 fine and potential jail time.

Council Awards Tender For Storm Sewer Completion

Tenders for Contract B of The Pas storm sewer project have been received and opened but funding is uncertain. John Reader says a provincial federal funding agreement is not final, delaying any shadow funding arrangement and requiring a council resolution to award to a chosen tender while awaiting final agreements and cabinet acceptance.
