The anniversary committee executive seeks all committee chairs to contact secretary Alf Castle to confirm their time and personnel for the three day Golden Jubilee Celebration in August. Immediate response requested.
In The Pas Manitoba the Kinsmen Club plans a private act to exempt a housing project from education tax and frontage tax totaling about 1850 yearly. The move would override municipal limits to avoid deficits, with CMHC indicating no mortgage support under a deficit budget. The act would be filed in Manitoba Legislature under Kinsmen Homes of The Pas.
At a Pas Music Festival executive meeting the annual meeting was postponed until fall due to lack of workers and rising doubts about continued operations. The group thanked those who aided the festivals in 1962 for training and sessions and recognized local press support.
The Pas plans a by-law to fund a 36 room high school on the town eastern edge with a gymnasium and modern facilities. The measure will be on October balloting alongside the municipal election after land talks with Canadian Kodiak Refineries. The Collegiate would become elementary. plans include rough floor layouts and department of Education submission after land talks conclude.
The Kelsey School Board faced a last minute Education Department ruling in Winnipeg requiring 200 school days per term for maximum grants. Plans to delay opening until after Labor Day were dropped and schools were ordered to start by September 4, with August holidays declared public by the education minister.
Jock Berg won a General Electric television set at a dance sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Proceeds benefited the Parochial School. The Knights thank Profit's Furnine and Appliances GE dealer, Cambrian Hotel management for parking lot use, and all attendees and ticket buyers.
Town celebrates its fiftieth anniversary with a children’s sports day on Saturday August 26 at Devon Park Sports Grounds. Events include a half mile girls relay and a mile boys relay plus bicycle races, morning swimming at Winton Pool, and afternoon field events at Devon Park Soccer Field. Roy Johnston coordinates entries and relay teams with notes on bicycle readiness.

The Royal Canadian Legion local branch seeks lodging for visitors during the three day Past Anniversary celebration on August 24 to 26. Chairman Wilf Crossley Persons requests anyone with space in The Pas or a lake cabin to contact him immediately at MA3 3091 days or MA3 5327 evenings.
Early morning blaze at the Wanless residence threatened occupants. Willie Perry, 9, sparked the fire using a gas can, while neighbors including Hartlett Lind and Simon Nabess acted swiftly to rescue Mrs Partridge and Granny, with Simon breaking in a window to pull her to safety and earning praise from Mrs Perry.
Fallout shelters have appeared in northern Manitoba with one near Westray south of The Pas. Local authorities deny knowledge. Hagborg Construction has a contract with the Department of National Defence to install several shelters in the region.
Starting on Monday this week The Pas marks a boosting anniversary with publicity through the local post office facilities and related civic attention.
Between July 16 and August 26 inclusive, all outgoing mail at The Pas will be cancelled to draw attention to the 1962 Golden Jubilee of The Town. The inscription also carries the dates of the local celebration August 24 25 26.
Two forest fires were out of control at noon yesterday as Cece Patterson reported. Eleven fires this season have been handled in the area with two still burning. The Narrows Fire near Moose and Talbot Lakes is the most serious with 83 men on scene and aircraft including Manitob a Government Airways D21 and D4 helicopters. The Moose Lake north flank spans nine miles with no water nearby and crews rely on helicopter water drops. The fire is held in places but substantial timber loss is reported.
Mr H E Davies of Edmonton has been appointed manager of the Unemployment Insurance Office at The Pas. He succeeds Bill Hanson transferred to Grande Prairie. Davies expected to arrive around August 6. He is married with two teenage sons.
