It’s Your Hospital You Are Voting On In The Pas
Ratepayers in The Pas and the Local Government District of Consol vote this Friday on two by laws to fund a 2 600 000 building program for St Anthony’s Hospital. Government grants cover 2 425 000 leaving 175 000 to be raised locally with 55 000 for Consol and 155 000 for The Pas.

By Law Vote Friday Polls Open 9am to 6pm
Polls open at 9 AM and close at 6 PM this Friday for two hospital by law votes. Votes take place in The Pas and the Local Government District of Consol with multiple polling stations. Eligible voters have property assessments of 400 or more, ratepayers 800 or more, and dual residents may vote on both by laws.

Coroner's Inquests Held at The Pas
Three coroner's inquests were held here at The Pas under Coroner Evans Premachuk last week. Edmund Gans died at 1 15 AM on June 14 nine miles north of The Pas on Highway 10 after a RCMP stop of a car for faulty lights. Gans complained he could not identify who ran over his decca.

Wescana Inn planned at The Pas by Western Canadian Hotel
The Wescana Inn, a $1 million two storey frame and masonry complex by Western Canadian Hotel Management Limited of Winnipeg, will be built on Fischer Avenue near Carnegie Service Station. Construction starts next month with completion expected early 1970, featuring 50 bedrooms, multiple dining and beverage facilities, and banquet rooms for 500.

Town Budget Ratified With Stable Residential Mill Rate
Town Council last Friday approved a 1969 mill rate with 64.3 mills for residential property unchanged from 1968 and 88.8 mills on commercial property, down 1.5 mills. The business tax on commercial properties rises from 12 to 15 percent, adding just over $6000, offset by lower mill rates.

Don and Jack Fisher announced the sale of Northland Drugs The Pas to Dennis McMahon of Hamiota. The sale took effect July 1. Northland Drugs established 1928 by C B Hutchison. The Fisher family led the store since 1949 and moved to the present Edwards Second location in October 1956.

Huge Fire Follows Derailment Near The Pas
A derailment on the CNR between The Pas and Hudson Bay disrupted rail service since early Sunday. Fifteen fuel oil gasoline and butane cars ignited, creating a large fire that effectively sealed off the area as smoke was visible Sunday afternoon.
