Commissioner's Commendation Presented by Mayor Kennedy

In a RCMP office last week Mayor Jack Kennedy presented a commissioner's commendation with Sargeant Elmer Cutts assisting. The report notes Mr Makowaychuk participated in a barefoot chase last winter after seeing two men leave Wagner's Jewellery Store in the night, with further details continued on page 12.

Car Rolls Two Injured In Highway Ditch Crash

Two young men were injured when their 1967 Ford Fairlane owned by Donald Telfer, 19, left Gordon Avenue near Lesaichuk's Service, rolled into a roadside ditch 239 feet from the highway, coming to rest on its roof near Swan River gas pumps. Melville Wood was a passenger.

Tourist Bureau Now Open in The Pas

The Tourist Bureau on the southern edge of The Pas opens for July and August, seven days a week. Four young staffers Lisa Anderson 17 Susan Lacey 15 Anita Garand 16 and Debbie Nikolychuk 16 run the bureau with Anderson in charge. Manpower Corp funds the project after Chamber of Commerce funding delays. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and slightly later on Sunday, closing at 9 p.m.

Freight Rate Hearings Across Northern Manitoba

A study of freight rates in Northern Manitoba unfolds at hearings across The Pas Flin Flon Snow Lake Grand Rapids with more meetings planned in Lyon Lake Leaf Rapids Churchill and Thompson. Bike-A-Thon at Mary Duncan School grounds

The Drop-in Centre schedules a Bike-a-Thon for Saturday July 15 starting 9:00 a m. from Mary Duncan School grounds. Bikers check in then ride along 10 Highway to Prospector No 285 to the airport and return finishing at the school grounds.

Day Care Centre Closed For Summer At The Pas

Margaret Barbour graduates mark record class in The Pas

The Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute 1972 graduating class of 40 received the most bursaries and scholarships to date. diplomas were handed by School Board chairman Jack Johnson and pins by Superintendent Harold Grundy as Geoff Smith introduced each graduate. A banquet at Keewatin Community College followed with parents and guests. David Pfau earned the University Alumni award for highest academic standing in Grade 12.

Friendship Centre Gets Grant For The Pas Building

The Manitoba Government approved a grant of 27 643 to the Friendship Centre at The Pas to finish the new building. Health and Social Development Minister Rene E. Toupin announced that this final installment completes part of a 1 797 000 package authorized for the civic centre complex construction in The Pas under a provincial federal Regional Economic agreement.

Pool donations continue to fund indoor swimming pool

Donations for the indoor swimming pool are continuing with final collections underway. Independent businessmen have contributed substantial sums, led by Twin Motors with 200.00 dollars, Dial Electric 250.00, Dr Tony Cotton and Stan Reid 250.00 combined, and Jones Grocery and Arey Bancroft each giving 200.00.
