Salvation Army marks 50th year in The Pas with anniversary gathering

In 1966 The Salvation Army observes its 50th anniversary in The Pas. A special public gathering will open the celebration this coming Sunday night at the Canadian Hall, presided over by Divisional Brigadier W. Ratcliffe with assistance from local officers.

Army divisional youth leaders to visit Winnipeg area

Brigadier Ratcliffe and Captain Gordon Wilder from The Army’s headquarters in Winnipeg arrive for an event expected to draw many local residents. The Divisional Leaders will perform musical items with the Army Local Youth Band in attendance. Lt. B. Kougesen notes citizens may join in celebrations and offer congratulations.

Bridge to be built behind Western Grocers in 1967 plan

Local officials and business leaders cleared the site for a new bridge near Devon area with plans to study designs and costs. Construction start is not set, but a 1967 target is speculated. Arena site sale proceeds would fund the new Arena and town yard lands behind the utilities building may be acquired by the Province.

Police Urge Caution After Girl Is Accosted on Crossley Ave

A fifteen year old girl was accosted on Crossley Avenue Friday evening by an unidentified man. Police note similar complaints in recent weeks and urge women not to walk alone after dark, especially weekends. RCMP report a rise in transient activity in The Pas with men from Thompson visiting on weekends. Last weekend a woman reported a carload of men taunting her as she walked home at night. Police advise noting license numbers if possible.

Strong Manitoba Protest Over CBC Colored TV Bid

A broad Manitoba protest mobilized from Dauphin to Thompson at Swan River calling CBC to delay colored television until a schedule for live and regional service is announced. Flin Flon Councillor Harry Easton chaired and was named chief spokesman for Montreal hearings. The group urged legal counsel for BBG hearings and Manitoba government representation in Montreal.

Huskie Juveniles to Entertain Dauphin Weekend

Dauphin Juveniles visit The Pas as the Huskies travel out of town for two Minor Hockey League games celebrating Young Canada Week. Saturday at 8 30 p m and Sunday at 1 30 p m feature prize draws for youngsters with free admission for attendees with guardians.

Jam Pail Bonspiel Promotes Elementary Curling In The Pas

The sports council of Margaret Barbour Collegiate plans a Jam Pail Bonspiel for The Pas area during the Trappers Festival. Clinics precede the event with instruction sheets and posters in schools and stores. Participants need only jam pails to curl with.

Woman Found Frozen To Death In The Pas

The frozen body of 73 year old Teodore Baszczuk of The Pas was found Friday afternoon behind the Dutch Drive In after she had been reported missing from her residence on Head Street Thursday evening. RCMP received two missing person reports in 24 hours. A separate case found a 13 year old boy missing from school and later located at a neighbor’s as a babysitter. Part of the search focused on Rahls Island Roadway where she wandered frequently. Police continued all night searches and located the body near the CNR tracks by the Dutch Mill Drive area.

Fisher Rink Wins Manitoba Elks Bonspiel Main Event

Don Fisher's rink won the Manitoba Provincial BPO Elks Bonspiel main event at Portage la Prairie. Art Johnson's The Pas rink finished second in the Third Event. Fisher earns a Corby Cup Playdowns berth in The Pas, with eight Manitoba rinks competing.

Scoles Heads Sacred Heart School Board

Scoles was elected chairman of the Sacred Heart School Board of Trustees at the first meeting of the new year. Moe Lagi modiere serves as vice chair, with D Butler as secretary and Hugh ohernes as treasurer. Father Bilodeau acts in the interim for Father Chaput, who is in Rome for three months.
