PLARIS BAFEL has joined for the Associate Me cal Clinic at The Pas. He comes here directly from London England where he has just completed 10 years of postgraduate studies.
Dr Rafei becomes the sixth medical member of the Clinic amid a takeover of medical care for Treaty Indians by Indian Affairs, with staff rotating duties between the Clinic and the Indian Affairs Clinic. Rafei, from Egypt, trained in Alexandria and England, specializes in pediatrics and rheumatology and seeks lodging in the area.
Manitoba Telephone System cuts long distance rates January 23 to match southern rates after Public Utilities Board approval. J F Mills chairman notes the policy aims to standardize pricing across the province.
Dogs on Constant and Taylor Avenues were poisoned with as strychnine during the Christmas week. All affected animals came from the west side. RCMP laboratory in Regina confirmed the poison from meat found by Tillie Guinan. A German Shepherd puppy in Constant died after seconds of convulsions.
Lamb Airways owner considers RCAF Hercules mercy flight to move a damaged Otter from Rankin Inlet to Calgary for repairs. He recalls a past Pond Inlet mission where a US Hercules flew a sick child out amid low ceilings and rough ice. The Hercules has previous Arctic fuel transport use.
The Pas reports the death of Neil Devenny a former The Pas resident and CPR trainman killed instantly in a Regina yard train collision. He is survived by his wife and three children aged four to eight. brother Murray lives in The Pas.
The Kelsey School Board will stay the same in 1966. Cal Gibson and Jack Berg reversed retirement plans and accepted ministerial appointments to the Board after months of reconsideration. The Board faces serious salary talks with teachers and plans a spring money by-law to fund an addition to MBCI Collegiate.
Readers describe the Essentials Christmas Concert held on Wednesday December 15 at the Lido Theatre. The review highlights a softly opening number, dramatic stage decoration, lighting changes, and polished performances by Mel Metzner as MC Charles Nabess on lead guitar Donald Nabess on vocals Larry Haynes on bass Jim Moran on drums.
Mayor Trager outlined priorities at the inaugural meeting including sewer and water hookups for unconnected premises on the water line, improved street lighting, more Christmas lights, a traffic bridge over the Saskatchewan River, and a full time PE director. Emile Cousineau a CNR fuel operator retired last Wednesday in a brief roundhouse ceremony. He joined CNR in April 1932 as a sectionman and later moved to the coal dock in 1943.

The Pas Trappers Festival invites Church School Organization and Commercial groups to enter floats for the opening parade on Wednesday February 9 with $200 in prizes and the Keystone Fisheries Trophy. Prizes of 50 dollars per class and the best all round float trophy emphasize snow and ice use. Chamber of Commerce coordinates inquiries.
The Pas residents increased long distance calls over Christmas and Boxing Day. 1496 calls were made on Christmas Day, up 11 percent from last year’s 1301. Boxing Day saw 960 calls, a 10 percent rise from the previous year.
