Central North Manitoba calls for community run corrections
A Northern Corrections Committee report urges decentralizing correctional services to the community level in Manitoba north of 53. It proposes a Northern Community Corrections Development Group with native and regional representation to coordinate policing, courts, probation and juvenile facilities and to expand northern forensic capabilities. The plan favors local control of facilities, northern psychiatric assessment, and full time RCMP presence with proposed expansion of native and Metis constable programs, plus strengthened training in the north.
