The Pas Lodge of the B P O Elk's report two telegraphs from Santa promising a stop in The Pas at the Lido Theatre on Thursday December 22 at 2:00 PM. The visit invites all pre school children from The Pas and surrounding area, with each child accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Judge W A Molloy in County Court last week dismissed a possession charge against Jim Stevens of Pas after defence counsel’s motion following the RCMP statement by Stevens. Stevens claimed he bought the outboard motor in Winnipeg for good money, a statement the judge found credible and sufficient to end the matter if presented at the Preliminary Hearing.
Mr. Wilf Cudmore was re elected President of The Pas Chamber of Commerce at the annual meeting held earlier this month. Roy Vickery is Vice President and Sid Wilton the Immediate past president. Bert Wagner named secretary and Jack Graham treasurer. New two year officers include Keith Banks Roger Gee Bill Carnegie Len McAdam and Bert Hayes. Tony Cotton elected for one year. Remaining on the executive for another year are Bob Seidel Orville Gareau Bert Wagner and Art Beck. Cudmore cited emphasis on tourist promotion with 13 train and bus excursions conducted during the year.
Timber wolves were sighted near Mile 25 at Hi Johnsons Point and Prince the Johnsons Labrador was killed by wolves on Thursday night. A pack was later seen on the lake as officials, with the Johnsons, set poison bait stations to reduce the threat to nearby cottages and deer habitats.
In a moose pasture near town a Bombardier stuck in ice prompts a rescue tale. Roger Gee’s machine froze similarly two weeks ago, leaving crews to improvise with limited tools. Snowmachines will see greatly reduced operation during the Trappers Festival next February as regulations block street and highway travel. The Highway Traffic Act requires motor vehicles to be registered, and most snowmachines cannot meet this. Festival officials were advised no exemption exists under the act, prompting RCMP involvement for parade safety.

Police investigated a break-in report at the CNR Freight Office on Friday night. No theft occurred and Richards was remanded for one day.
