The Pas Herald reports an unguarded excavation near The Vocal School and two drowned sisters raise safety concerns. Mr. Carnegie says the owner of the property lived at Brandon while a foundation for a prefab building from Calgary was prepared, with plans to move it to The Pas.
Mayors and councillors discuss inspecting a hazardous site and charging the owner for cleanup. The Pas council also approves 74 for four residents who failed to pay hospital premiums and debates recovering premiums paid for a taxi driver. Charges against Turner Plumbing's owner proceed to court with a magistrate's decision pending.
The Pas council revisited police cost concerns after a Winnipeg letter on the Manitoba Urban Association meeting. Councillors Batchelar and Bernstrom plan to attend in September while Batchelar urged a regional study to lower municipal costs. Mayor Trager questioned progress on a local police costs study after last winter adding a new constable.
The Pas council voted to hold an inquiry into costs and asked the study to measure quality as well as quantity. Mrs. Batchelor hoped the information would be ready for the Urban Convention collaboration. Mayor Trever urged action, noting the issue has dragged on and The Pas has a special case for provincial police funding.
