Fire crews battle small blaze near abandoned shack
The Pas Fire Department was called to a rubbish pile by a derelict shack near Dufferin and Connaught last Thursday afternoon. No one was inside and the fire was quickly extinguished with no injuries. Fire Chief Dick Wright said the cause remains undetermined.

Northern Manitoba pioneer Hiram Walter Johnson known as Hi died at 89 at his Clearwater Lake residence on Saturday August 23. Born May 26, 1886 in Ontario he moved to The Pas in 1910 and shaped the north with Johnson Transport winter road operations and landmark projects including Opasquia Hotel water and sewer lines and the Red Brick School site.
