Two traps placed at Campers Cove on Clearwater to capture a roaming bear. A large steel culvert trap with a sprung door guards the opening as authorities attempt to corral the animal near Clearwater Airport and the bay.
The School Board reports a single vacancy on the local teaching staff with a science position still open. A French teacher has been engaged this week for the collegiate program. Both board and teachers prepare arbitration arguments over the ongoing salary dispute, with teachers seeking a 5 percent pay increase and the board rejecting any raise.
The CBC will air regular CFL telecasts on the local station one week late. The first game is this Saturday at 8 pm as a kinescope of the Montreal Hamilton game from August 10. No CFL telecast on August 17. Great Movies airs August 24 with rugby season follows.
The Spartans football team in The Pas faces a shaky position as the 1963 season nears after spending 2000 on equipment. Gerry Foster seeks 300 to 400 more to cover replacement, insurance, and incidentals. The club hopes school board support will help, but current board sponsorship is unclear.
Karen Dion Dink daughter of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Dion Dink trains under her father as coach and trainer. She swam four miles last Friday in two hours from Sun Over Beach to the Clearwater Airport water pump station. She plans to attempt eight miles later this summer.
Theatre owner Paul Rivalin told Town Council he may close the Lido Theatre on September first due to show booking problems unless tax concessions are approved. He requested a 60 percent assessment cut and cancellation of the business tax plus three year terms with no wages, citing television as causing losses. Council took no action that evening but some relief discussions noted, with possible easement of assessment under consideration.
The long sought lighting project for The Pas bridge over the Saskatchewan River is completed. The Manitoba Department of Public Works and Manitoba hydro collaborated with The Pas to install vapor lights last week, improving safety for motorists and pedestrians at night.
In Flin Flon a judge ordered several youths to reveal who supplied them liquor. One 16 year old girl refused and was remanded until she disclosed. another girl was also remanded to probation and has since named her source. A third boy faces related charges and Grand Rapids results. The court vows stricter action on liquor supply to minors.
The Town of The Pas approved paying 1124 for Manitoba Hospital Plan premiums to cover residents who have not paid. Unpaid premiums will be levied against property. non owners face welfare enforcement. Council also voted playground signs for Doern Park area and 75 for an engineer to attend a Saskatoon sewer and water conference this month.
Sgt Witzke who led the town RCMP detachment for three and a half years is moved to Dauphin and will be replaced by Sgt G H Stewart. Stewart arrives later this month and Constable J C Morrison acts as officer in charge in the interim.

RCMP announce enforcement of crosswalk rules in The Pas as urban intersections gain clear white lines and pedestrian signals. Drivers must stop at the first line or at the crosswalk marking when no line exists, especially where visibility is limited by buildings.
A trainload of 225 tourists from five provinces and twenty one U S states arrived in The Pas around 3 pm on the final leg of a 900 mile Churchill Excursion to Hudson Bay. The CNR tour marks its 27th year with a second train due next week and visits to Flin Flon Dauphin Swan River and local highlights organized by The Pas Chamber of Commerce.
