Citizens protest site for juvenile centre in The Pas
August public meeting led by Stu Hunter gathered thirty local residents to review two proposed sites for a juvenile corrections facility. A 40 page committee report, submitted June 30, outlines facility type staffing costs and program needs. The group split over Seventh Street near Keewatin College versus Third Street near the correctional complex. The majority favored Third Street for community integration, while Hunter and Patricia Steele urged Seventh Street to satisfy separation mandates in Juvenile Delinquents Act and Child Welfare Act.
