Drive to raise 6500 for Senior Citizens project begins May 1
A local fund drive starts May 1 and runs until June 2 to raise 6500 for a proposed Senior Citizens residence to be built beside the Kelsey School grounds. Budget changes approved by council and school levy increase
The council set the mill rate at a special meeting and will ratify the 1962 budget at the next regular session on May 2. Expenditures for the year total an estimated 485 575 03, up 7 400 00 from 1961. The Pas school board seeks 125 472 50 under the special levy, down 14 000 00 from last year, while the general five mill school levy on the balanced assessment rises from 28 515 00 in 1961 to 50 130 00 this year due to a revised five million plus assessment base. The old 28 515 00 was based on a three and a half million dollar assessment. The newer assessment sits just over five million following a general revision. All municipalities face the general school levy of five mills on balances. (continued page 2).
